I think this comes down to two areas, networking and servers. Servers will move away from SNMP with MS pushing WMI more and Unix/Linux being driven by scripting. But network devices will always rely on SNMP because it is a standard to be able to push and pull data. I could see a new version of SNMP, but if it works why fix it?
